MORNING BREW

If you’re like me, you’re not really a coffee drinker, but every now and then adulting gets the best of you and you need to reach for a cup. A girlfriend of mine introduced me to Bulletproof coffee, and it was just what I was looking for: energizing, clean, responsibly sourced, and sans all the chemicals and sugar that is in most coffees. Did you know coffee is one of the crops with the most pesticides?!

My boyfriend is a big coffee drinker and in an attempt to get him on the healthier habits bandwagon, I decided to learn how to make my own perfect cup of clean coffee. After several attempts, I believe I finally got it right. I love to drink this before an early morning workout. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do. As with all things, adjust to your liking. Happy drinking!

  • 3 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of organic, responsibly sourced coffee into a coffee maker (or a pot if you don’t have a coffee maker/french press). I like this brand, but use your fave.

  • Brew the coffee, then let sit for 5-7 minutes. If you don’t have a coffee maker/french press, heat the coffee and water on the stove until right before it boils. Switch to a cool eye, and let cool off for 5-7 minutes. 

  • Pour coffee into a blender (or your Nutribullet if you’re like me). Strain it first if you are using the stove top method.

  • Add 1 and a half tablespoons of organic cacao (not cocoa) powder. You can find this brand at your local grocery store, but any organic brand should do.

  • 2 tablespoons of organic MCT Oil. Look up the benefits of MCT oil. *Note: for those of us with oily skin, MCT oil is a form of coconut oil. Coconut oil consumption can cause you to breakout/cause your skin to produce more oil. Feel free to skip this step, or reduce it significantly (maybe to .5-1 tbsp?). I learned the hard way so you wouldn’t have to. You’re welcome :)

  • 1 and a half tablespoons of Kerrygold brand unsalted butter, or your preferred organic butter from grassfed cows. For those of you who are dairy-free, ghee is fine to use.

  • Stir all of the above in the still warm coffee until butter is mostly melted 

  • Blend for 30 seconds. Pour and drink
